Vital Voices: Arts in Education is in its 13th year of bringing quality theatre programming into the public school system for elementary and high school students. Vital's programming fosters self-confidence, creative independence, and artistic growth by encouraging students to unearth their authentic voices. We teach practical, hands-on skills in the theatrical arts such as playwriting, producing, acting, design (set lighting, costume and sound), musical theatre and commedia. Our in-school, daytime and after-school workshops are led by professional teaching artists and culminate in a final presentation. We are also the founding partner of Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School in Canarsie. Our 1662 students at nine partner schools wrote 46 plays and performed, directed, designed or worked as crew for 32 productions. We served 80 teaching artists, 159 teachers and 3738 people in combined audience. SPECIAL NEWS
